
The World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Risks Report 2026 has been issued, analyzing over 1,300 experts and leaders’ opinion about the severity of 33 issues over a 10-year horizon.
- The most likely risk for 2026 is ‘Geoeconomic confrontation’, followed by ‘State-based armed conflict’.
- Environmental-related risks are considered the most critical long-term risks to the world (i.e. for the next 10 years), with the highest potential to severely damage societies, economies and the planet.
Out of the Top-10 global risks over the next 10 years:
- 5 of the Top-10 are related to environmental issues, with ‘Extreme weather events’, ‘Biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse’ and ‘Critical change to Earth systems’ occupying the first 3 places.
- 3 of the Top-10 are technological risks, namely ‘Misinformation and disinformation’ (4th place), ‘Adverse outcomes of AI technologies’ (5th place) and ‘Cyber insecurity’ (8th place).
- 2 of the Top-10 are societal risks, namely ‘Inequality’ (7th place) and ‘Societal polarization’ (9th place).
