Sustainability ● Managed ● Assessed
In today’s business environment of scarce resources, understanding how good you are, based on facts and figures, becomes imperative, in order to streamline decision making and plan future actions in an effective, but also efficient way.
- How do you know how Sustainable your organization is, in quantitative terms?
- How do you know where your organization should strategically focus on?
- How do you know what tactical actions you should implement to reach your strategy?
To answer these questions, we implement an overall quantitative assessment of how mature your organization is on Sustainability, identify critical high-level Strategic focus areas and develop a realistic tactical 3-5 year Action Plan.
The process is designed around three phases, which support an organization in its journey towards improving its Sustainability maturity level, in a systematic, targeted and measurable way.
Phase 1: Sustainability Assessment
For the quantitative Assessment, we use our on-line Sustainability Assessment Tool (SAT), which enables us to quantitatively assess and graphically represent how Sustainable your organization currently is. The Assessment is conducted mainly against documented information (e.g. policies, processes, perception surveys) and is:
- Structured around 7 easily understandable Areas (Management, Owners, Suppliers, Employees, Customers, Communities, Environment), 40+ sub-Areas and 4 Dimensions (Policies, Processes, Performance, Perception).
- Addresses criteria from most widely used sustainability tools and rankings (including the GRI, BITC, EFQM, ISO26000, EMDI, CDP, ISSB, TCFD, CDP, CSRD, ESRS, DJSI, NASDAQ), as well as good practices from leading organizations.
- Requests response to over 1,000 clearly stated potential questions (answered or changed at anytime) and enables easy review of pending questions.
The outcome provides a quantitative overview of how Sustainable your organization is, which:
- Enables strategic decision making, by choosing which Areas to focus on.
- Enables further drill down of how Sustainable your organization is in 7 Areas (e.g. Employees) and 40+ sub-Areas (e.g. Human & Labour Rights), in order to identify tactical improvements in specific Areas and sub-Areas.
- Provides a tailor made pool of Suggested Next Actions (across all 7 Areas and 40+ sub-Areas) on how to improve your maturity level, in order to develop a 3-5 year Action Plan.
Phase 2: 3-5 year Sustainability Strategy
For the high-level Sustainability Strategy, your organization’s current Sustainability maturity level per Area, as well the maturity for each Dimension are utilised, in order to:
- Identify the Areas where your organization’s maturity level is the lowest, to focus on those which are more material to your organization.
- Identify the Dimensions where your organization’s maturity level is the lowest, to shift your way of acting in terms of management approaches (e.g. stop developing Policies, start deploying more Processes).
- Present the outcome during workshop to your Sustainability Executives/Management Team, who define your future anticipated maturity level in each Area separately, and then define which of the 40+ sub-Areas you think you should prioritize.
Phase 3: 3-5 year Sustainability Action Plan
For the tactical Action Plan development, a tailor made pool of potential Suggested Next Actions is utilised. These are identified by comparing your current Sustainability maturity level in all 7 Areas, 40+ sub-Areas, across all 4 Dimensions, with the ‘desired’ quantitative maturity level, as defined in the Sustainability Strategy.
From a pool of potential Actions, we choose and present a list of potential Actions. Actions chosen should and can be implemented realistically, aligned with your actual available resources, both financially and in terms of human resources. At the same time, for each Action the owner (who will implement the action), the deadline (when it will be completed) and the workload (mandays required) is defined. The outcome is reviewed and approved during workshops, while the Action Plan itself is reviewed and updated annually to reflect developments in the field of Sustainability (e.g. regulations).
